FAQ and help with CCTV Installations carried out by us:
Any quality issues within the warranty period will be rectified free of charge by Ideal CCTV upon notification. In the case of the fault simply occuring by wrong use or untrained personal - or any cause not related to installation and system quality faults - the call out will become chargeable to the client.
To avoid charges to our clients we recommend to follow the basic trouble-shooting steps below, in order to hopefully resolve issues, merely based on user-error or lack of information.
Downloading / Copying footage from the DVR to a digital medium like CD/DVD/Memory-Stick
-
Please only use the correct media for your respective drive/writer. CD and DVD writers of DVRs (Digital Video Recorders) are a lot more reliant on the correct type of media than standard home computers. It is vital to establish the type of drive in the DVR before using/purchasing the CD/DVDs.
-
Some DVD Writers (burners) will only write to DVD => So please always use DVDs with DVD Writers
-
CD Writers will definitely only write to CD => So please always use CDs with CD Writers
-
Most DVD and CD Writers will only work with media of their own type (DVD R+ Writer will only work with R+ DVDs, CD RW Writer will only work with RW CDs). Please purchase the correct media
-
If the above CD/DVD Type issue sounds too complicated, we actually recommend the use of USB STICKS. Using a USB Stick will eliminate the risk of using the wrong media and potentially losing footage. Please only use branded good quality USB Sticks. Many no-name products have been reported to not work with most DVRs. They will work with home PCs, but not with DVRs
-
Always FORMAT the media (whether DVD, CD or USB Stick) before every download process, using the DVRs own built-in formatting utility
-
Always use the DVR to check tha the recordings have been copied to the media, before leaving site. Often the DVR menu will allow: MENU > SEARCH > SELECT MEDIA (DVD / CD / FRONT_USB etc).
The above points are reason for about 75% of all customer support calls
